Regulations for the use of the Mikveh

A - Considerations

After a long period of time without the existence of a Mikveh, the Jewish Community of Lisbon is now equipped to provide this service to a great number of its members, thus permitting those who wish to use it to live Judaism in its plenitude.

The rules for the use of the Mikveh have been established, after consultation with the Rabbi and his wife.

The Board of Directors of the Jewish Community of Lisbon (CIL) has the prerogative to change or revise these rules, if necessary.

B – Responsibility

1 – The responsibility for the supervision and the management for the use of the Mikveh, and its ritual, has been attributed to the Rabbi of this Community. The Rabbi may delegate these duties to who he considers appropriate at any time, and for the time period he considers necessary. This delegation of duties may be changed at any moment.

2 – The Board of Directors of the Jewish Community of Lisbon (CIL) is responsible for the management of the Mikveh. The Board may delegate, in one or more, of its members the duties of its executive management.

  1. a) All items to be placed in the Mikveh must be previously authorized by the Board’s executive manager(s).
  2. b) The purchase of all items, or eventual donations by members of the Community, must be coordinated through the Board member(s) with executive responsibility for the Mikveh, in order to avoid duplications and/or shortages of materials.
  3. c) The coordination mentioned above is required in order to maintain uniformity of all materials used.
